Madal
Madal is an Amis musician, educator, researcher, and cultural practitioner from Taiwan. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Musicology at National Taiwan University, his work bridges Indigenous music, education, community engagement, and cultural revitalization. Drawing from years of experience in social work, Indigenous education, and community-based cultural initiatives, Madal’s practice is deeply rooted in the everyday lives, knowledge systems, and musical traditions of the Amis people.
As a songwriter and performer, Madal creates music inspired by traditional Amis life songs, oral histories, and contemporary Indigenous experiences. His work explores the relationship between music, identity, memory, and place, while seeking new ways to carry Indigenous knowledge into the present. Through performances, recordings, radio broadcasting, and collaborative projects, he continues to create spaces where traditional and contemporary expressions can coexist and evolve.
